Stina Nilsson (b. 1985) is a Swedish dancer and choreographer based in Berlin and Copenhagen. She studied dance at Balettakademien in Sweden 2004 – 2005 and at Skolen for Moderne Dans in Copenhagen 2005 – 2009. As a part of her studies she made exchanges at P.A.R.T.S in Brussels in 2007 and Batsheva Ensemble in Tel Aviv in 2009.
As a part of her own research, Stina has also participated in following workshops:
Katie Duck – improvisation summer course, June – August 2010
Kitt Johnson – site specific solo workshop, 2010
Minako Seki – Butoh workshops 2010 and 2011
Stina’s work is mainly focused on developing real-time improvised performances, often in collaboration with musicians and visual artists. In all her works she aims towards a mindset of completely presence in the creating moment, free from judgements and expectations, in order to sharpen the senses and allow the power of creativity to lead the way.
In 2009 she founded the dance-music improvisation collective Superhands, that has been performing regularly since then. Together with Linda Reinered she also founded the performance collective Kötteatern and made the piece Sult in 2010. Sult was performed at the festivals Vildskud, Zene+ and Neuzeit concert series in Copenhagen.
In 2011 Stina made the piece Laboratoriet together with composer Henriette Groth, scenographer Sarah Cederstrand and director Malene From. The project was produced by Københavns musikteater.
In collaboration with video artists/stage designers Bejamin Schindler and Markus Glandt/zeitgebilde and composer Markus Pesonen, Stina made the videos/dance/music installation Lichtgestalten at Tanztage Dresden 2011.
Stina is teaching classes and workshops in improvisation and composition in Berlin, Copenhagen and Sweden.
Her work is supported by The Danish Arts Council, JazzDanmark, Nordeafondens dansepulje and Dansk Nationalbanks Jubilæumsfond.
